Join us on November 4, 2021, for the Rotary Club of Cincinnati luncheon meeting at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza Hotel for a unique meeting as we discuss Challenges and Solutions for Attracting, Hiring and Retaining Talent with an accomplished panel of Cincinnati Human Resource leaders. These experts will reflect on their experience and strategies with maneuvering the current labor shortage as well as efforts to retain their associates.

Sheri Harper, MBA, SHRM-SCP, Chief People Officer, Tire Discounters
As a transformative human resources executive and change agent, Sheri Harper brings over 20 years of experience building and scaling robust human resources organizations, infrastructures, and teams in diverse environments.

Currently, Sheri serves as the Chief People Officer at Tire Discounters where she provides executive leadership and oversight of all HR functions affecting 1,500-plus team members. In addition, Sheri delivers strategic counsel to stakeholders to shape and steer the company’s overall vision and mission.

Before joining Tire Discounters in 2021, Sheri served as the Chief People Officer at Frisch’s Restaurants, Inc. instilling new people/business capabilities to drive redesigned brand strategy.  Prior to her four years as Chief People Officer, she served as Human Resources Director for 6,000 U.S.-operated Wendy’s® restaurants providing strategic HR leadership to 575+ company-owned restaurants and 5.1K+ franchise locations.

In recognition of her work and accomplishments, she was nominated as one of 2019’s One Hundred Wise Women, the Cincinnati Business Courier’s 2019 Women Who Mean Business and 2020 Women of Influence honoree.  As a thought leader in the human resources field, Sheri has also presented at leading global conferences and authored multiple articles, including a recent publication in Manage HR Magazine.

Sheri holds an M.B.A. with a concentration in Human Resources Management from Upper Iowa University and a B.A. degree from Muskingum College. Along with her education and countless professional contributions, Sheri is an active volunteer and Board Member for the YWCA of Greater Cincinnati.


Ryan Coslett, President, Jeff Ruby Culinary Entertainment
Ryan Coslett is an approachable leader with diverse and international experience in hospitality, retail and human resources. He is currently the President of Jeff Ruby Culinary Entertainment, after originally joining as the company’s Chief People Officer. Prior to joining Jeff Ruby’s, he served as Vice President of Human Resources at Macy’s and as Head of HR for Target Optical and Sears Optical at Luxottica. Ryan is a civil rights advocate and began his career as an investigator for the Ohio Civil Rights Commission. He is passionate about racial reconciliation, alleviating poverty and is very proud to be part of the Cincinnati community.

Ryan holds a B.A. from Mount St. Joseph University, mediator certification from Capital Law School and SPHR designation. Away from work, he really digs cooking (and eating), live music, tennis, and travel. He lives in Cincinnati with his wife Carissa and son Wolfgang.


Liza D. Smitherman, VP/Chief People Office, Jostin Construction, Inc.
Liza D. Smith is also owner of Brewster Pumping, LLC. Liza graduated from Bowling Green State University with a B.S. in Education and a M.Ed. in Counseling from Xavier University.

She joined Jostin Construction in 1998, in partnership with her husband in their first generation, family-owned business. Liza played a key role in developing the driving purpose behind Jostin Construction – To create & provide a diversity of opportunities for all.  Now celebrating over twenty years in business, her role has expanded as the business has grown. She facilitates the development of growth strategies for Jostin and its subsidiary companies and continues to drive the direction and planning for all aspects of human resources (employee relations, compensation, training & development etc.) and workforce development.

As owner of Brewster Pumping, Liza provides direction for establishing and implementing short and long-term goals for the business. She also works closely with the Brewster team to manage day-to-day activities. 

Liza is very active in community organizations that share her passion for creating new opportunities for others. She is a member of the Board of Trustees for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, and REDI Cincinnati.  She also joined forces with other business leaders in the community to support the work of Represent, a working group/board tasked with diversifying the Over-the-Rhine business district through the attraction and retention of Black-owned business.  She is also a member of Advocates for Youth Education, Inc. a philanthropic organization providing scholarships to African American youth in their pursuits of higher education.  

Liza has worked at both the local and national level on workforce development initiatives.  Her passion in this work has allowed her to serve as a member of the executive committee for a national collaborative project called Business Leaders United for Workforce Partnerships.  Locally, she is a member of the Advisory Board for the Workforce Innovation Center at the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber.
