Steve Davis, MD, MMM, serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Cincinnati Children’s, a nonprofit pediatric health system recognized nationally for excellence in clinical care, research, education and innovation. Davis became President and CEO in November 2021 after previously serving six years as the organization’s Chief Operating Officer.
A pediatric critical care physician by training, Davis has spent much of his career combining medicine with healthcare leadership. At Cincinnati Children’s, he helped lead the organization’s largest expansion, the $600 million Critical Care Building, which opened in 2021. Under his leadership, Cincinnati Children’s has continued to expand its research and specialty-care capabilities, including development of a $60 million Applied Gene and Cell Therapy Center, scheduled to open in 2026.
Before joining Cincinnati Children’s in 2015, Davis spent nearly two decades with the Cleveland Clinic, holding numerous clinical and executive leadership positions, including Chief Operating Officer of Hillcrest Hospital.
Davis earned his bachelor’s degree from Johns Hopkins University and his medical degree from the University of Vermont. He completed his pediatric residency and chief residency at Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital and a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He also holds a master’s degree in medical management from Carnegie Mellon University and a master’s degree in strategic leadership from Michigan State University.
In addition to his leadership at Cincinnati Children’s, Davis serves as board chair of the Ohio Children’s Hospital Association and is a board member and past chair of Children’s Hospitals’ Solutions for Patient Safety, an international network working to eliminate serious harm in pediatric hospitals.
