Joe Sunderman is a Cincinnati-based former Xavier University basketball player and longtime broadcaster, widely recognized as one of the enduring voices of Xavier Musketeers men’s basketball.

Sunderman played center for Xavier from 1974 to 1979, appearing in 97 games and starting 74. During his senior season, he averaged 9.6 points and a team-leading 8.6 rebounds per game, helping Xavier win the prestigious Volunteer Classic tournament.

A graduate of Xavier University (BBA and MBA, 1979), he was later inducted into the Xavier Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of his impact on the program.

Following his playing career, Sunderman transitioned into broadcasting and has become synonymous with Xavier basketball. He began calling games in the early 1980s and, since 1998, has partnered with Byron Larkin as the radio voices of the Musketeers.
Together, they have spent decades bringing Xavier basketball to fans across the region, with Sunderman serving as play-by-play announcer on flagship radio stations.

Known for his positive, energetic style and deep connection to the program, Sunderman has received recognition for his contributions to college basketball broadcasting, including the Atlantic 10 Conference’s Bob Vetrone Media Award.
